Mohan Thomas well this is special. it would have been something else to experience the live shows. we're lucky there were recordings. lots of surprising sounds and influences. worth listening start to finish

Olga Kivius The idea of Orchester 33 1/3 led by Austrian musicians C.Kurzmann-C.Fennesz was to combine electro-acoustic improvisation with the large ensemble jazz. This is a shining example of how this idea could be made elegantly.
Actually they mix almost everything: experimental electronics, avant-garde, free jazz, funk, jungle, glitch, African rhythms, rock. Dedicated to M.Mantler, the album also has 3 versions of his "Preview".
Although the recording was made 20 years ago it sounds modern & fascinating.

Great, great band, The Engines...this live recording (The Green Mill, Chicago) just hits the sweet spot continuously... The playing, the improvising, the interplay, the energy and the verve just don't get better than this for me...all Ken Vandermark associates, all quality guaranteed composers. Lots of exceptional stuff on this label (Dave Rempis' Aerophonic Records) too...check it all out, it's worth your time and effort. John Cratchley
